Millbury Savings donates an additional $5,000 for town signboard
Though Millbury’s 200th birthday celebration took place three years ago, the Millbury Bicentennial Committee was still hard at work.
Long after the conclusion of a successful, year-long array of festivities, the Millbury Bicentennial Committee and its legacy committee were putting the final touches on the second legacy item to be left to the town: an electronic message board for the lower common in Millbury center, replacing the existing sign. Unfortunately, the cost of the sign was a little more than anticipated.
Millbury Savings Bank—which had served as a platinum sponsor of the bicentennial—agreed to step in and donate an additional $5,000, the approximate amount of the shortfall, in order to cover the cost of the sign’s decorative façade, bringing the bank’s total financial commitment to the bicentennial to $35,000. The sign was dedicated in what was officially the town’s final bicentennial event on June 11, marking Millbury’s 203rd birthday.
